This was our day where we drove from Madrid to Barcelona. Our first stop was in Guadalajara (where one of Ellie's teachers was from), to see the Pantheon of the Duchess of Sevillano. It wasn't open yet for the morning -- but there was a park next door, and that may have been one of the kids' favorite things we stopped and saw :-)
Then we stopped in Trijuque to see a very old Church, and the remains of a wall. There happened to be two nice little old local ladies who were visiting the usually locked cemetery, who let us come in and see the cemetery that is attached to this Church.
Then we stopped to see the Iglesia de San Silvestre in Algora; then checking out the Cascada del Gollorio. This place was a lot of fun to walk out to and see the views -- and it would have been INCREDIBLE if we'd been there during the wetter season to see actual Falls.
Then we stopped off in Zaragoza -- hitting the second of two towns the kids' teachers are from. We'd REALLY wanted to see the Moorish castle, but it was closed from 2-4:00 -- which is just about the time we got there :-) . We ran into that quite a few times in Spain. But it was cool to see from the outside, Annie declared it her favorite castle we saw -- and there was a park, so it was a win.
Apparently we weren't the only ones who'd showed up to Barcelona that day -- 350,000 peaceful protesters during the day, and some not so peaceful ones that night. But we interestingly saw no evidence of even traffic from it when we came into town at about 7:30PM. It was weird watching the news of something happening a mile away that we couldn't tell otherwise was happening.
