Ellie flies past on her bike, no hands. Isaac calls after her from his slow moving bike, "Ellie. Safety! Both hands on the wheels at all times!"
That, right there, is a pretty accurate of their personalities

I'm the meanest Mom ever. Not only did I make Owen get OUT of the tub 40 minutes after bedtime should've already happened, but then I insisted on putting on lotion on his dry and cracked skin. The combination of such maternal torture meant he screamed until he made himself puke. Good times.
This is what happens when bedtime happens later than it's supposed to. You'd think I'd learn by now . . .

Just had to tell Ellie and her friend that they probably shouldn't send the chickens down the hill on sleds -- they both seemed so bummed
Add this to the list of things that I never knew I'd had to say

Greg's first week of work kept him out of town from Monday night until now, and it was a little hard on the kids. Just a couple examples of the sweetly sad stuff they said while upset about their Dad not being here:
I was asking Owen why he was crying when he woke up distraught one night, and after 10 minutes of calming him down he finally sobbed, "I'm crying because my Daddy isn't home."
And Isaac in tears at bedtime one night, telling me why he's so sad about his Dad being gone, "Because he's my favorite person ever."
They were both just so sad, and it was hard for me as their Mom to have them so sad and not be able to do anything about it -- but part of me couldn't help but almost smile as I was just filled with a deep gratitude that my kids have the kinda Dad that is just missed so darn much! We're all so lucky to have him!

So, Owen has decided recently that he wants a 'mohawk like Johnny' from Preschool, but it just turns out really different with all of these curls
He loves it. Mom isn't so sure about this style

Four year old Owen, who knew he was about to get scolded, "Don't you point your eyes at me, Mom."

Odd things I overhear from my five-year-old, "husbands and wives should always be the same creatures, so I guess that means Lacy needs to be a vampire too."

Thanks for everyone's prayers, positive thoughts, suggestions, referrals, and recommendations -- Greg was offered a wonderful new job that he will be starting in two weeks. It's an amazing opportunity, and while it will mean some big changes, we are so happy that our family will be staying put in Herriman!

Isaac fell off a chair today and nearly knocked out one of his bottom teeth -- it's still hanging on, but it having much of a future in his mouth seems unlikely. His gums are all bruised and swollen, and there was blood everywhere, but he's recovering nicely, mainly because doctor's orders were that he get popsicles and oatmeal for dinner (along with a few more days of soft foods). Fortunately it wasn't anything more serious -- since we haven't had dental insurance for a whopping three weeks, it does seem like perfect timing for a little dental emergency
:-)(He did lose both bottom teeth over the next month or two)

On top of our amazing family news that Ellie has lost a tooth, another impossible thing has happened -- I think I can officially say now that OWEN IS POTTY TRAINED. Like, I don't have to ask him every 90 minutes anymore, no more accidents, he goes all on his own without even needing to inform me, kinda potty training! Woot woot!
So other than night time diapers, this means for the first time in over 9 1/2 years, I am not changing diapers all day! Parenting win!!
:-)
You have never seen a more excited kid than this girl -- she's waited a LONG seven and a half years to lose her very first tooth, and she is over the moon right now
(Sorry for the gross tooth picture
-- gross tooth and bloody hands, bloody cheeks, blood splattered shirt -- for a kid who took TWO AND A HALF MONTHS to wiggle out this loose tooth, she sure really went after it in the last 10 minutes of this epic and bloody battle.)

We had some family over for Owen's fourth birthday party, and it was so fun to see everyone, and he was SO excited when he saw his new cake. We'd had his cake on his actual birthday, and he was SO excited to turn four. When he saw his cake last night, he happily exclaied, "YAY! Now I'm five!" I had to explain the having a birthday party and birthday cake doesn't actually mean a whole new birthday

January 1st
Three of my four little ones stayed up not only until midnight, but long enough afterwards to watch some fireworks and play another round of Hand and Foot. I'm pretty sure we're all gonna be TIRED in the morning
