August Facebook Updates

August 5th, 2014
The boys are busy playing in the tub -- I'm pretty sure this is where they are at their most creative. They're making up 'esperimental recipes', and I just heard Isaac say, "OK, my chubby little assistant, hand me the salt." Chubby little assistant?  Then with a dramatic flourish with a magic wand, Isaac exclaimed, "Walla!" (Voila). "We are all done!" Owen triumphantly raised his (chubby) little fist, "All done!" I love listening in on this . . .Isaac during his second bath of the day. "I have an anti-venom shot here," then in a whispered voice, "'Cause I'm one of those doctors who secretly gives people poison." Um, that's not creepy at all.
Then, "Here, I'm going to give you a shot. I'll get a bandaid out of my pocket. [awkward pause] How 'bout we all just pretend I have pants on?" Ha!
More tales from the bathtub:
Ellie, "You know Annie, sometimes you're kind of a bad example."
Annie, surprised, "Me?" After some thought, "No, wait. I can see that . . . "
Annie, "This sure has been a crazy day in the bathtub! I wonder what crazy adventures we'll have next time?"
Isaac, excitedly, "I hope the same ones again!"
Annie, "No Isaac, we want different adventures!"
Isaac, same exact excited voice, "Yeah, I hope all new ones again!"

I like when the Kohls cashier thinks Talina has twin 2 year olds and is 9 months pregnant

August 9th, 2014
It is 10:50 and Owen is still sleeping. This is freaking me out. I've gone in and carefully placed my hand on his back to make sure he's still breathing (plus gone in and not-so-carefully done it, to make sure he's still stirring). My poor baby must not be feeling very well, because this is the LATEST any of my children have EVER slept in. Ever.

Owen tested out of Speech Therapy today. It was kinda bittersweet. We'll miss Melea, but so grateful he's catching up to where he needs to be!
August 13th, 2014
Happy for blessings in disguise. Owen had a raging ear infection back behind his blocked tube -- which led to a night full of crying and pain and tears, and it was awful (for everyone.) But then in the morning, the infection came bursting through the tube and into his ear canal -- gross, I know -- BUT, it means that the infected fluid just cleared out the wax that's been plugging off his tube and soon as he's over it, we can go and get him hearing tested again! And because the tube is opened up now, we can treat this ear infection with antibiotic drops in the ear, rather than an oral antibiotic. I hated that he was in so much pain for a day, but this ear infection just did what the doctors couldn't do without surgery -- cleared out the tubes!

I'd been mentally planning out breakfast as I was lying in bed this morning -- I had some bacon I could cook up, fry up some potatoes in it, then add eggs and make breakfast burritos for the kids. Salsa on the side, and I could even make enough to send it in a thermos for school lunch!
Then I remembered I'm fasting for an ultrasound today, and decided cooking bacon was the dumbest idea ever.
The kids had cold cereal today. :-)

The girls went on a Daddy/Daughter date to an outdoor movie at Thanksgiving Point. They came home especially giggly, and Ellie came charging in my room with an imaginary sword and shouted, "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.!" So, I take it they liked the movie

With my niece staying with us, we have five kids eight and under (two 2-year olds) that we're trying to get down for bed. It's 9PM and every single one of them are wide awake. Kids: 5 Parents: 0
Worth the wait. My gorgeous new niece was born in the wee hours of the morning, a mere 12 days overdue

Ellie is a little too helpful at the dentist

In the last week we've had three doctor's appts, two ear infections, four prescriptions, two diagnostic tests, four dentist appt, and then the cherry on top of the sundae that is this week -- I get to call and set up an appointment with an orthodontist for my 8 year old. Good thing money grows on tree! Oh wait . . .

August 22nd, 2014
The two year old has been crying for 25 straight minutes because I won't let him eat more chewable vitamins. (very . . . . last . . . . nerve . . . ) We also forgot about Isaac's preschool until his teacher called to ask why he wasn't there 40 minutes late. And there may or may not be gluten free rice krispies strewn from one side of my kitchen to the other. It's shaping up to be a great day around here . . .
I need a nap (almost as much as I need Owen to nap) -- I may or may not have just accused Barney (yes, the dinosaur) of being "Captain Bossy Pants." When you're having a one way feud with an imaginary dinosaur singing to your kids on the computer, it's a sign of needing some serious rest and relaxation.

A pretty successful family night: A trip to the library to restock our book basket:

Ellie set up this little 'reading rug' in our hall, where she situated Isaac so she could read to him. He made the mistake of calling her 'teacher', and she corrected, "You can call me Librarian. Or Librarian Ellie. Or Ellie Librarian. Or Ellie the Librarian. Or Librarian Johnson. Or Ellie Johnson Librarian. Or Librarian Sophia. Or Sophia Librarian . . "
Isaac interrupts, "Um, Librarian Johnson?"
Ellie, "Yes, little boy?"
Isaac, "Can you please just start reading the story already?"

Isaac interrupts, "Um, Librarian Johnson?"
Ellie, "Yes, little boy?"
Isaac, "Can you please just start reading the story already?"

These are the books Annie has finished since we got home from the library last night. . . she denies it, but I'm guessing she stayed up too late . . .

I feel like I've got my work out for the day. Four kids to the grocery store, three fighting over who gets to sit in the cart. And lots of whining over wanting corndogs.

Then when I was putting away the cart, Owen climbed into the drivers seat, and locked me out. I'm ready for nap time -- preferably a nap for me.

This is what happens when Mom tries to rest, lying on the floor . . .
This is what happens when Mom tries to rest, lying on the floor . . .

Owen thinks I'm crazy too . . .

660 diapers (from newborns to size 6s) for less than $60. Less than $0.10 a diaper (including some swim diapers, and like 100 size 6s for Isaac overnight). This makes me entirely too happy  (It also makes my sisters with tiny babies pretty happy!)

August 27th, 2014
Owen is a tiny diapered Houdini! How does he do it?! I come in to get him out of his crib after his nap, and he's still wearing a onesie, but his diaper is sitting on the floor. HOW?!?!?!
August 27th, 2014 -- Relative Finder
Having fun with the Relative Finder site -- turns out Amelia Earhart is my 12th cousin 4 times removed. We're super close.
Benjamin Franklin and I are 13th cousins 8 times removed. Must be why there's such a striking resemblance.
Emperor Of The Byzantine Empire Manolis -- my 26th Great Grandfather. Not a cousin or anything, but straight up Grandparent. I always knew I was secretly royalty.
Woo hoo! Casimer IV Of Poland is my 18th Great Grandfather. I feel like Poland owes me money or something
Charles III the Simple of the Unknown -- um, I'm not claiming that 33rd great grandfather . . . Charles the Simple, of Unknown, that's impressive sounding
Also -- Charles II " The Bald"
Charles VI The Mad
Maybe I should've stopped doing family history while I was ahead . . .
Great Grandpa (28th great grandpa) Duncan I King of Scotland doesn't sound crazy. Or bald. Or dumb as a rock. This is looking more promising . . .
Great Grandpa's # 32, 29 & 33 -- Edgar " The Peacable", King Of England, Edmund II "Ironside" and Edmund "The Magnificent". This sounds more like my family . . .
Queen Elizabeth I and I are 21st cousins, 14 times removed -- so if I occasionally slip into a British accent, that's why.
Great Grandpa (28th) Henri I, of France
Great Grandpa (26th) Henry I Beauclerc King Of England
Great Grandpa (21st) Henry III King England
And, um, apparently Henry IV, King of England, is my 19th Great GrandAUNT . . .
Also, 18th Great Grandaunt - Richard II, King England
And 23rd Great Grandaunt - Richard I Coeur De Lion, King ofEngland
Those ones MAY be recorded slightly wrong . . .
Henry the Eighth and I are 20th cousins 15 times removed. Oh Cousin Henry, with all your beheading and divorcing of wives . . .
Had a 12th Great Grandfather come across on the Mayflower.
Great Grandpa (35th) Lothaire I Holy Roman Emperor
Great Grandpa (28th) Magnus the Strong, Prince of Denmark
Great Grandpa (30th) Olaf II " The Saint" Haraldsson. So, that's where I get it from.
Great Grandpa (28th) Mstislav I of Kiev. If Greg and I have any more kids, we'll seriously consider naming one after Grandpa Mstislav.
President Nixon and I were 11th cousins 4 times removed.
Also, related to Philo Farnsworth (who helped invent the television), through the line that connects to the Kelloggs (of corn flakes fame).
Oooh, new potential namesake for hypothetical future children: Great Grandpa (21st) Vaaclav II of Bohemia and Poland or Great Grandpa (17th), Wladislaw II Jagiello of Unknown
Elvis Presley and I are 12th cousins.
Oh, and Edgar Allan Poe (20th cousin, 7 times removed). Bing Crosby and I are tight too (14th cousins, 3 times removed). Buster Keaton is my closest relative in 'famous americans' -- 9th cousin, 3 times removed.)
Now I'll stop, I promise, promise. (My promises mean nothing though. Much like cousin Henry VIII's).
And woo hoo, I found all the King Louis' of France -- Great Grandpas 22, 24, 25, 23, 34, 32 . . .
How am I not a fixture on the European aristocratic scene -- I'm practically related to everyone!
I'm finding it fascinating that while I'm obviously related to tons of Pioneers, General Authorities, Martin Handcart people, and other Church history figures, that they're all like 15th cousins, 9 times removed -- but European Royalty and I are tight
(It's like everyone has always tried to tie their lines into royalty, no matter how dubiously  )

Ogden Temple Open House

Greg's parents were awesome enough to set up a fun day altogether -- we went up to Ogden to tour the Ogden Temple, then went out to lunch afterwards.

The kids loved the Temple tour -- Ellie was in love with the building and kept asking why we can't live there, and why the tour had to be so short. She wanted to spend all day there. Fortunately for us though, the tour was under an hour, because it was past Owen's nap time and I don't know how much longer we could've kept him semi-quiet :-)

Grandma Ruth and Grandpa KC with the kids

Our cute little family attempting a picture -- Ellie and Isaac getting increasingly less cooperative by the picture :-)

The kids loved the fountain on one side of the Temple, and the reflecting pond on the other.

There was a replica of the Christus statue in the tent area outside the Temple -- once again, turns out getting a picture of four kids looking in one direction is difficult.  Fortunately getting pictures where they look cute is easy.

Reflecting pond . . .

Did I mention it being WAY after Owen's normal nap time?

The one thing that made Owen happy was getting to take a picture on his own of Mom and Ellie . . .

My little girl is getting so grown up . . .

I thought it was so great that they had photographers/missionaries there to take pictures with these backdrops to immediately send right to your email address. So happy to get a picture of all 8 of us together on such a special day . . .

It was January 2009 when we attended the Draper Temple Open House.
And June 2009 when we attended the Oquirrh Temple Open House.

Um, I used to write a lot more on this blog, and use less pictures.  What can I say?  I only had two kids then and way more functioning brain cells than I have after years of sleep deprivation.  Pictures it is.
