Spain Vacation -- Day 1 -- Madrid

After leaving Salt Lake on Monday morning, we landed in Madrid on Tuesday morning -- with not a lot of sleep in between  But the kids powered through and we spent the day exploring Madrid and visiting the Prado museum.

This day was long, and a little exhausting -- but included two of my favorite memories. Isaac in the Prado was FASCINATING to watch. He was enthralled with the art -- especially Goya's black paintings, and would carefully read the whole description (in Spanish and English), then just study the pictures. He just 'takes in' so much! And then my very favorite memory of the trip was our first visit to the market -- just Ellie and me. I speak NO Spanish (although I understand a bit), so she came as my translator. This girl DOVE into speaking Spanish -- she talked to every employee in that whole little market. She discussed sea food with the deli guy, asked the security guard with help finding milk, and chatted with everyone she met. I've never got to experience her confidence and her social little personality in her Spanish language before, and it was my favorite.
