Sarajayne's Free Writing Assignment

After Sj died, Ellie was at their High School visiting with one of the teachers who had had Annie, Sj, and Ellie in various classes over the year. She was an English teacher they all adored. This teacher sent Ellie a message that day -- she had gone through Sarajayne's writing from last year to share with her family, and came across a Free Writing Assignment that was assigned on May 19, 2023. It was Annie's birthday, and this is what Sj wrote:

Topic: Free Write. Write about anything you choose.

My Response: Today is Annie's birthday. We have been best friends since we were 3 years old. When we were little we used to pretend to be Pocahontas and dive into the ball pit at preschool and we would also watch the whole Pocahontas movie backwards. We also played this game where we had pet horses, dogs, and cats. One time it was my American girl dolls birthday and Annie's little sister brought her cabbage patch doll but only American girl dolls were invited and so we fought about it and finally I let them bring their cabbage patch dolls and their American girl dolls. There was this one time when me and Annie and our little sisters were fighting and so me and Annie's little sister Ellie hung out with each other and Annie and my little sister hung out with each other. Me and Ellie wanted to play with them so we made this coconut game but they thought it was stupid so we didn't play. We also would play a game where we would pretend we were homeless in the forest. Annie's little sister helped us build a shelter out of sticks and mud. We also made a moth hospital. We also loved to make plays for our parents in our backyards. There was one play where me and Annie were ladybugs and we told jokes and Annie's little sister was the nice candy witch, and my little sister was the princess because we all voted that she was the prettiest. We used to build nests out of grass at school during recess and we would also kick a jelly bean squishy thing while we were swinging.
