Drive to California

The three oldest kids slept over at Grandma and Grandpa's house Friday night, then bright and early Saturday morning we got everyone loaded up in the two vans (and one trailer of suitcases) and headed for California.

Owen threw up before Scipio.

Then had a blow out diaper before St. George.

At this point I was wondering if we'd brought enough clothes.

He screamed for a solid hour before we got to St. George, but fortunately from there crashed and slept for nearly two hours.  The rest of the drive was fairly uneventful -- for us.  But I am glad we were not coming HOME from California that day.  We passed a bad accident (about two hours after in happened), where a truck had gone over the median and into ongoing traffic, hitting a tour bus and bursting into flames, near the Zzyzx exit.  We only were stopped for a couple miles, but the other direction was INSANE.  It was complete stop and go traffic for the next THIRTY miles for them.  People were overheating, running out of gas, pulling off road only to get seriously stuck in fine sand.  People were stuck for a good 4-8 HOURS going that direction.  Further into California there was a car fire right by the freeway (on the other side of the road than us), where helicopters were dropping water right next to the freeway.  It was a crazy commute for people leaving California that day!  Fortunately, we made it without any major incidents (besides puking and blow out diapers.)

And did you know that Scipio has a petting zoo?!  Complete with zebras.  We got there before it opened, but my kids loved seeing the animals.

 Naked puke-y baby . . .
