March was pretty fun around here! The big events each got their own blog post -- my nephew Marvin's first birthday party, and our family camping trip to St. George. But here's some other highlights:
We took the three oldest kids to see Wicked! It was so much fun, and I'd debated which kids we should take (we ended with an '8 and older' decision) -- but I've regretted not taking Owen since the second we got home! He's never seen it, but out-sings all of his siblings combined!
Owen did school work that made me smile:
The kids learned to make their own project on Grandma Ruth's loom:
Our friend and neighbor, Virgina, got a new puppy -- one she let Ellie pick and name! We're pretty smitten with Luna around here, and she gets regular playdates in our backyard:
The kids all got to participate in a super cool drum circle experience at the school, but Ellie's class was the only one I was there for:
The two giant trees in our backyard had to come down -- we kept giant piles of the trunk cut up for firewood, yet still took over 5,000 pounds of branches to the dump:
The fire pit we poured last Fall finally got used! We do still need to do the brick around it, but it was fun to get out and make a fire in it now that it's starting to warm up.
The family tradition continues! Isaac is our third kid out of three to come in 2nd place in the Battle of the Books competition! With nearly 50 3rd and 4th grade teams in the running, his team of 3rd graders made it to the final round and went up against an awesome 4th grade team to come in 2nd place school wide! Ellie's team made it to the third to last round in the 5th-6th grade competition as well, putting them in the 5th-8th place range, and since I really felt like neither of them were super into it this year or took it that serious, both of their placements were as much of a surprise to me as to them :-)
