Not Shrimpy Anymore
Isaac turned two last week. July 6th, to be exact.

What a difference a year makes!
At over 31 pounds, he's nearly Ellie's size and 86% on the charts for weight. He's also my only kid to end up over 50% on the charts in height, at 68% (34.55 inches -- which is funny to me, because both of my girls were just a fraction of an inch taller than that when they turned three years old.) They don't measure head size at two years old, which made me sad. He was like 98th percentile last time he was checked at 18 months, and I had high hopes of him being off the charts by now :-)
That whole nonstop eating thing that went on from 21-23 months -- it apparently paid off. The kid put on 11.5 pounds in one year.
He's talkative, funny, moody, hilarious, sweet, cuddly, temperamental, grumpy and caring. He wants to do whatever his big sisters are doing, and excitedly exclaims, "Aniston!" or "Sarajayne!" or "Lily!" whenever their friends come over. I keep encouraging the kids to all come play at our house, since he's so broken hearted when his sisters leave to go play somewhere else. I don't think he understands that he's not one of the 'big' kids. Especially since he's practicality the same size as most of the girls' friends.
He was terrified at the doctor's office, and sat curled up in my lap, practically whimpering, the whole time we were there. They never heard so much as a single word from him while we were there, which made my tales of his linguistic prowess seem greatly exaggerated.
He loved the whole birthday thing, and enjoyed opening presents and yelling at Ellie if she tried to help him open a present, or touch his present. Or look at his present. Him and Ellie have a fairly volatile little relationship. She better back off soon, 'cause he's like 2 seconds away from really understanding that he has the physical upper hand in this relationship.
He was adamantly opposed to telling people he was '2' the first day or so after his birthday. Until we put two cupcakes on his plate and counted, "1, 2." He looked up, grinned, and asked, "TWO cupcakes?" "Yep, Bug, you're two now -- two cupcakes." Ever since then he'll happily tell you he's two years old.
He's been calling Ellie 'Ellie Belly' and Owen 'Owen Bowen'. Annie's just 'Annie.' He's been adding an 'e' sound to the end of words a lot. I don't know what's up with that, but he'll ask to play with a "Ball-y" instead of just a 'ball', and today asked if I could 'turn on the a-punzel-y moo-sik.' (That would be the Rapunzel soundtrack.) He really loves all things princess, and Rapunzel (or A-punzel-y, as she's been called lately) is a total favorite.
He will still cuddle with me, and if he's tired, he grabs ahold of whatever fabric he can from my shirt (or more often, from under my shirt) and slowly twists it in his fingers as he gets closer and closer to sleep. He loves being read to at night, but mostly by Daddy.
He loves holding his little brother "Owen Bowen", but for like 4 seconds, then you better be ready to catch the poor kid as his big brother practically shoves him off his lap.
He loves to help in the kitchen, especially with "missing" (mixing). It's usually not so much helpful, but awfully adorable. He likes to help clean up. Again, not really that helpful -- but he sings, "Keen up, keen up, eveybody everywhere," while doing it, so it's a highlight of my day.
I know I've mentioned this before -- but the singing! This kid is amazing. Walking in the store tonight, he was busting out a word for word perfect version of "Jingle Bells" chorus. He's often found just walking around the house belting out such tunes as "Twinkle, Twinkle" and "Pat a Cake". My favorite though, is in the car he can sing the last couple words in every sentence of most of our favorite driving time CDs -- Veggie Tales, anything Sandra Boynton (him belting out "I Need a Nap" with Weird Al and Kate Winslet is something I wish I could film so I can remember it forever and always), Disney soundtracks and Glee. He uses the girls' karaoke machine more than they do, and loves to sing anytime and anywhere -- until Mom gets out the video camera, of course.
He's currently sharing a room with his sisters, so we could transition the baby to his own crib for the night. The transition has been much easier on Owen than on the girls -- Owen took right to sleeping, and usually sleeps from 8PM to 6AM or so most nights. The poor girls are kept awake until as late as 10PM by their brother's antics as he sings, talks, laughs, jumps, throws stuffed animals at them, and does everything in his power to keep himself, and them, awake for as long as possible. I'm realizing we need to move him out of the girls' room soon so Annie can get a decent night's sleep once school starts. But, then it puts him in with the baby who's sleeping really well and I don't want to mess with that. Short of sleeping Isaac in the bathtub with a few blankets, I'm not really sure what our best option is here . . .
He's not the grumpiest baby on the block anymore, but he can still be fierce with his glares still. But, much to his Aunts' delight, he has totally warmed up to everyone in the extended family, and excitedly squeals and jumps and claps whenever any of them come over. He comes running at them full speed, and throws himself into their arms with an enthusiastic, "Grandma!" or "Star!" or "Lacy and Ben!" ('cause the engaged couple is pretty much a single entity in my kids' minds right now.)
This is totally random stream of consciousness ramblings about my little two year old boy, and I'm sure I'm missing stuff, but it's what popped in to my head as I typed. Without further ado, here are pictures from his birthday celebrations . . .
