July 27th
We went to visit my Grandparents today -- we visited upstairs with Grandma for a little bit, then headed down to sit with Grandpa during his dinner. The kids enjoyed crawling under the table and 'sneakily' ticking all of our feet, and getting their own cups of apple juice. Watching Grandpa eat dinner was just so heartbreaking -- it's sad to see what a thief old age can be, as he asked questions and seemed confused and didn't make sense a lot fo the time. The kids were excited to head out to the courtyard afterwards, and we took some pictures there. We walked up to their room again, where Grandma was just waking up from a nap. She's so weak and tired, and I just wish she felt better -- she said how good it was to see the kids, since she never sees them anymore, and my heart broke a little more, as we'd just been to visit a few days before. The Grandparents were tired, and my kids were getting loud and stir crazy, so we left after a round of hugs. I'm so grateful my kids have always had Great Grandparents in their lives who love them like crazy and vice versa.

It's so gorgeous here I may never leave! Also, my van is dead and not working on top of Cedar Mountain, so the kids and I are stuck in Brian Head without transportation, so we really aren't going anywhere. Boo.

Woo hoo! Congrats to Annie, who got 2nd place in the 3rd grade spelling bee!

June 20th
The kids had SO much fun at the fireworks, with our amazing seats on the Middle School lawn -- until the burning ashes came raining down on us, and although I was able to swat the burning embers away with one of the kids blankets before they landed on us, our blanket ended up partially melted anyway . . . now they're all traumatized for life and crying about how they NEVER want to go see fireworks again.

Dora, "What's YOUR favorite flavor of ice cream?"
Isaac, grumpily, "I can't even have ice cream."
Way to rub it in, Dora. :-)

Isaac playing with a set of toy keys, explaining their purpose to me as he flipped through them, "This one is for my house. This one is to my swimming pool. This one is for my car. This one is for my water park. This one is for my closet. This one is my drawer. This one is for my bedroom. And this one is the key to the city."

Today was as exhausting for Owen as it was for me!
Being the good Mom I am, I sent him playing out in the backyard with his siblings, but when they decided to move on from the trampoline, he stayed on. The problem is he refuses to get off on his own. So, he was stuck. So he laid down and fell asleep. It's like a giant outdoor playpen!

Bed time was easier than normal tonight. Even if I couldn't just leave him out there overnight

Annie's Piano Recital

Owen last night, after reading books with me in my bed for 45 minutes, finally agrees it's time to go to his own bed. He gives me a hug and a kiss, then starts walking towards his room, when he suddenly stops, turns around, run backs, grabs one of the books off my bed, then runs back to his room, turning briefly to call out, "I just got one book for my bed, 'kay Mom? Just in case!"
Nothing makes me happier than seeing the piles of books hiding in the farthest recesses of each of my four kids' bunk beds

The bad news -- Greg is home sick from work, probably with strep.
The good news -- I no longer have to find a baby sitter for Isaac so I can go to Ellie's First Grade Music Program -- he can just stay home with his equally sick Dad!

Dear all the children:
Just go to sleep. You're obviously tired (and/or possessed), and I don't know who has less patience now, you or Mom. So, for all of our sakes -- just go to sleep. Trust me. I'm going to too, soon as y'all stop fighting with one another.
Love,
Mom (the lady who is close to pulling out all of her hair, as they turn gray to the tune of your incessant whining and bickering).

I hate that feeling of 'I'll NEVER catch up!'
I'm gonna whine here -- feel free to skip it . . .
Since coming home from vacation:
- I've had a full docket of graphics jobs to catch up on (way more than I normally take on in a week)
- Isaac's appt. to take his cast off
- Ellie's doctor appt for her ears -- that turned up nothing, took over two hours, and despite CONSTANT ear pain, the soonest our ENT can see her is the 27th
- Ellie's doctor appt for her back (she hurt it in a fall, but seems to be doing better)
- I had to take online traffic school because of the stupid ticket I got on my way to California -- two hours I wish could've been used on any number of other things on my 'to do list' . . .
- I've done all the laundry, as in washed and dried it -- but my pile of clothes to fold is waist high, filling the entirety of my hallway
- Stuff at the girls' school
- I've spent mass amounts of time online and on the phone dealing with car insurance issues, doctors offices, healthcare expense reimbursement, health insurance issues, catching up on mail and bills (had a credit card expire this month that had to be updated), and registering two cars.
And my house will NEVER be clean again -- because it has fallen to the bottom of this list
Someone remind me that next week is a whole new week, I'll get caught up, and that things will get back to normal! And that Disneyland was a blast and well worth the post-vacation stress!
(Also, I've wrote this whole thing while on hold with the doctor's office -- because I think I'm having kidney problems and I also LOVE more and more copays . . . )
May 9th
One of the highlights of Disneyland for the kids was meeting the princesses -- Isaac was quite chatty, detailing all of his siblings names, ages, birthdates, etc. It was funny when Aurora was asking if the girls would have a ball for their birthday, with dancing, a big party, games, a cake . . . At this point Isaac shot up a hand and interjected, "we're gluten free." I don't think Aurora knew how to respond

April 30th

Owen is quite possibly the most hilariously grumpy sick child ever. He is SO angry and cantankerous when he's sick. He slept in until 10:25 this morning, and when I came in to say hi to him as he was still lying in on my bed, soon as I opened my mouth, he threw up his hand and said, "Just stop talking, MOM!" Isaac mentioned that Elmo's World had just come on, and Owen grumped, "Not Elmo's World, Isaac, it's Sesame Street. SESAME STREET!" When his doctor was checking him out last night, Owen put up his hand and growled, "Just don't touch me anymore." And while in the waiting room we were watching "Bubble Guppies" (his choice), when he suddenly started crying, and angrily exclaimed, "No, Mom! Not 'Bubble Guppies!' I want 'Yo Gabba Gabba!' 'Bubble Guppies' is too boring!" as he dissolved into inconsolable tears.
On the flip side, he crawled into bed with me at 6 this morning, complete with a high fever. I gave him medicine, put him next to me in bed, and he fell back asleep. Then he woke up a minute later, crawled up to put his head on my chest and said, "Just hold me, Mom," and promptly fell back asleep. About 40 minutes later, my arm was nearly asleep, and I tried to move him back to his own pillow, which woke him up a little -- his eyes fluttered open, he reached up, grabbed my nose and then put my imaginary nose on his own nose, and immediately fell back asleep. So sweet.
Annie this morning was reading a book about dumb criminals, and she came in and said, "Mom, can you believe this guy paid with a $20 bill, then demanded the money from the cash register and only left with $15! He LOST money stealing!"
Ellie responded, "Well, that was NOT a wise decision."
April 29th
Owen, dragging me from bed this morning, "Mom, I'm hungry, let's go make breakfast -- I want pancakes."
I responded, yawning, "OK, I'll go make pancakes."
He misunderstood me (due to yawn) and he responds, shocked, "Mom! I too little to cook!"
Once we cleared up that confusion, he sighed with relief and said, "OK Mom, that's better -- you should cook. Pancakes. Now. Let's go."
April 27th
I'm SO tired. Sleep was so illusive last night, and I think I fell asleep somewhere between 2-3AM, and Isaac woke me up at 6:30AM.
I have some theories about this craptacular night sleep:
a.) The three hour nap I took after Church yesterday. I rarely nap, because it always backfires
b.) The fact every time I was nearly asleep, I'd suddenly think again, "What if Annie is having a hard time breathing, or swelling up like a balloon??" and I'd have to run back in with a flashlight to make sure her lips weren't all puffed up like balloons and I could listen to her breathe for a bit.
c.) Isaac was tossing, turning, moaning, and crying in his sleep much of the night. I'm not sure if it was an upset stomach (75% chance) or a nightmare -- either way it felt like my own fault -- I let him have dairy yesterday, and I picked out the movie last night, and he was SO freaked out by Mad Madame Mim from 'Sword and the Stone' he ran out of the room during the Wizards Duel. (What?! That's the best part!)
d.) Then at 2:30AM Isaac woke up 'cause he peed the bed. Nothing beats middle of the night laundry and changing outfits of the kid in a cast.
e.) Owen crawling into my bed bright and early this morning, draping himself all the way across me, and sighing before falling back asleep, "Awww, Mommy pillow."
f.) All of the above.
Hope y'all slept better than I did
