Facebook Updates -- November - December 2015
December 28th
I told Ellie there was a question that was easy for her to answer, but impossible for me. "Who is your favorite sister?" She mused over the for a minute. She turned it around on me and said, "But yeah, Mom, the same thing for you with favorite brother -- it's easy for you to pick one, and hard for me. You only have Cody . . . I have to pick between Owen and Isaac. And Owen has curly hair, like mine, but Isaac's more mature. So, it's a toss up." Her criteria cracked me up.

At the end of Christmas day I am feeling encompassed by love, compassion, joy, warmth, and happiness. I got to see pure joy and happiness on the beautiful faces of my children, spend the day with them and my sweet, loving husband, and see every single one of our immediate family members who were in able to be in town. All following a week where neighbors, friends, and a couple Secret Santas dropped off touching little (and some big) reminders that we are cared for, watched over, loved, noticed, and a part of something bigger than ourselves. I love Christmas -- I love the feelings of joy, excitement, giving, receiving, closeness, gratitude, camaraderie, family, wholeness, community, grace, and love. I feel so very, very blessed and cared for -- like I am not and never could be alone.I hope that everyone else had a fantastic Christmas!

Isaac playing both roles of Innkeeper and Joseph in the sibling Nativity tonight had the following exchange with himself (this is probably one of those 'you had to be there' moments, but Greg and I were trying hard not to crack up, and don't want to forget it
)
Isaac-Joseph: [knocks on imaginary inn door]
Isaac-Innkeeper: "Sorry, no room in the inn."

Isaac-Innkeeper 2: "Sorry, no room in the inn."
Isaac-Joseph: [knocks on imaginary inn door]
Isaac-Innkeeper 3: "Sorry, no room in the inn. But wait, we do have a stable in the back for the animals."
Isaac-Joseph, super sincerely: "I'm so glad there's room in this inn," then sighs, resigned, "Kinda."

The difference between my middle two children illustrated in movie spoiler etiquette. (No actual spoilers are posted below. Only because Ellie can't type). Both went and saw "Star Wars" today, and were instructed to not tell Mom about what happened, since I haven't seen it yet.
Ellie: "MOM! Did you know that a., b., and c., happened! And so and so died! And so and so looked so different, and there's several new characters and here are all their back stories!" In the middle of that were several reminders by both me and her older sister to not spoil the movie for Mom. Those reminders were not very effective.
Isaac coming home after seeing the movie: Mom asks, "How was it, Bug?" "It's a secret, Mom." "No, just did you enjoy it?" "It's a secret." "Was it scary?" "It's a secret." "Who was your favorite character?" Gets up and leaves the conversation. Because his Dad told him not to spoil the movie for Mom. We've since explained that Ellie basically already blew each and every scene, and it's not even spoiling anything to tell me if he enjoys it or not. "It's a secret, Mom. I've already told you that like ten times."

I cannot convince Owen that his favorite pajamas are "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" pajamas. He's pretty convinced they are "Teenage Gluten Ninjy Turtles" pajamas. He shortens it and just calls them his Gluten Ninjy pajamas.

Conversation between Isaac and me this morning, as I was making breakfast and he was staring adoringly at the Christmas decorations in the next room:
"Hey Bug, why don't you come in and unload the dishwasher for me while I'm cooking."
"Um, Mom, how about my chore be shaking up all these snow globes in here . . . "

Isaac was having Greg help him perform a much needed medical procedure on his favorite stuffed animal (i.e., sew up a ripped seam). They were being VERY careful, and Isaac had used his anesthesia mask from his last hospital trip to put Bagocksin (his stuffed chicken's name -- yes, his favorite stuffed animal is a chicken) to sleep for the procedure. At one point I consolingly said, "I'm sure he's going to be just fine," to which Isaac solemnly replied, "We've only ever lost one chicken to the process . . . "

For the fourth time in Greg's career with Kennecott, there's been another round of layoffs. Unfortunately, this time his position was cut. We'd basically known since hearing about potential layoffs last week that this would likely happen, as his special projects position put him awfully far from the actual action, and with the plant trying to cut 30% of their operating costs, special projects aren't a top priority anymore. Fortunately, Kennecott, as usual, has treated us very well and fairly, and offered Greg an awesome severance package that leaves us feeling very little stress in terms of caring for our family. Although it's never fun to look for a job, or to live in the middle of one of the 'unknowns' in life, we are very excited for what the future holds for Greg and his career. Keep us in your prayers and thoughts as we figure out what comes next for our family. And, if anyone knows of a position for a genius Engineer with a freakishly intuitive understanding of processes, let us know
And seriously, he's going to want to find a new job soon -- he's only been home since 11AM, and I've already made him build shelves, fix a door, move furniture in two rooms, and I'm eyeing the bathroom that needs one last coat of paint as we speak.
My favorite moment though was when he came home, stared at his phone for a second, opened up to his 6AM alarm clock setting and loudly said, "DELETED!"
POTTY TRAINING!!! While Greg is temporarily out of job, how awesome it would be if he potty trained Owen?!
My list of things he can do while unemployed keeps getting better and better!
